Residents can have their say on proposed walking and cycle lanes for Gugulethu

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate invites local residents and affected parties to comment on our proposal to build universally accessible walking and cycle lanes in Gugulethu to improve the safety of all road users. The opportunity to submit comments is open until Wednesday, 5 July 2023.

The new infrastructure will significantly improve road safety for both pedestrians and cyclists.

The City's Urban Mobility Directorate is rolling out various programmes to provide safer, more accessible non-motorised transport (NMT) spaces for pedestrians and cyclists, and Gugulethu residents are encouraged to have their say on the proposals for their area.

The construction of the new universally accessible walking and cycle lanes will be implemented along the following roads and streets in Gugulethu:

• NY78

• NY50

• Terminus Road

• Koornhof Street

• Klipfontein Road

'We urge Gugulethu residents to please send us their comments and recommendations on the City's plans to expand the NMT network to improve road safety for pedestrians, cyclists, wheel-chair users, people with prams and school children. This expansion includes footways, cycle ways, signage and intersection improvements that are universally accessible. With the communities' input, we can ensure that the improvements and infrastructure we implement best suits their needs for enhanced safety and access,' said Councillor Rob Quintas, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.
